The Great Out There by Mariana Echeverri. installation view . Porto, Portugal 2014
Thanks Mariana, Mãe e Pai for the pictures and again, everyone that went the opening!
And at the great out there, here in Finland.
Today is a very special day: my new work is exhibiting for the first time and even though not being there to see it makes me sad, I am extremely happy. I’ve seen some pictures and it’s looking beautiful! I am very thrilled and proud, I hope you all enjoy it!
So, here is a toast to me, chin-chin! And a toast to all my dear friends and family that helped me! Um brinde gigante e divirtam-se! Fico contente por saber que vâo estar aí todos juntos!
Tonight we’ll have a dinner party here at the studio, we’ll put together some long tables, wear Alicia’s creations, and celebrate the magnificent days and nights we’re having.
This Saturday 11th at 22h is the opening of the final show of 1ªAvenida residency.
It was not easy to work with the producers of this residency but thankfully there were still some great and very helpful people there.
The Great Out There was also built during these months thanks to the unconditional support of both my parents, my girlfriend Lola, and my dear friends Alex, Joana, Mariana, Ana, Minas, Paula, everyone who came to my presentations and openings (it goes on…), who helped me find materials, put them together, look for new techniques, find great landscapes, who brought cakes to the studio, who took pictures of the process, who visited me and whom with I had a lot of fun. Thank you!!
And so I hope in the end everything goes smoothly, and the production will make it and honour the hard work of 3 months that I, and the other artists, devoted to our projects.
Today is my 1st day of 2014 and I am in Finland, between Haukijärvi, Mouhijärvi, Kyröskoski and Hämeenkyrö. There are maybe 5 hours of daylight and the rest is pitch black, no starts, no moon, no street lights and because there is no snow (it was snowing too little this morning) they call it the black winter, everything is black. It’s really strange, really dreamy, I’ve lost sense of time already.
